AM and MP welcome Local Road Safety Grant for Carmarthenshire

A £580,000 grants package aimed at improving road safety problems in the county has been welcomed by local representatives. Rhodri Glyn Thomas AM and Jonathan Edwards say the allocation, announced by the Assembly Transport Minister Ieuan Wyn Jones AM, will be a big boost to the area.
Under this year’s allocation of Local Road Safety Grants to South West Wales Integrated Transport Consortium (SWWITCH), Carmarthenshire is to receive over half a million in funding.
Announced by the Deputy First Minister, Ieuan Wyn Jones AM, £545,000 has been allocated to the Local Road Safety scheme, and a further £35,000 for the Child Pedestrian Training scheme which aims to develops responsible behaviour and road safety awareness for young children.
Rhodri Glyn Thomas AM said:
“I am delighted that Carmarthenshire is benefiting from the One Wales Government’s Transport Grant funding. This grant will help to increase road safety in the local area, as well as educate our young children about road safety issues I’m particularly pleased at the grant allocated for Chid Pedestrian Training, as it’s a valuable scheme which helps provide children with all the skills they need to enable them to keep safe on roads”
Jonathan Edwards MP added:
“Ieuan Wyn Jones AM should be praised for securing this money for the county. We have over the years seen some tragic incidents on our county roads so I am particularly pleased that this Assembly funding will be targeted at developing responsible behaviour, especially amongst young people. I am hopeful that this money will be put to good use and it will lead to safer roads in the county.”
