Local Politicians Call for more to be done to reduce cost of heating oil
Local politicians have taken their fight for fairer prices for heating oil directly to the Prime Minister. Adam Price MP and Rhodri Glyn Thomas AM have been campaigning for more to be done on the cost of heating oil for some time. Now Adam Price MP has written both to the Prime Minister and to the National Assembly for Wales’ Social Justice Minister calling for a VAT exemption on heating oil.
Adam Price MP said:
“This is an issue that affects a large number of people in the county. Often heating oil is not an option but the only option. I have written to the Assembly Social Justice Minister and to the Prime Minister requesting that they support our calls for a VAT exemption.”
Rhodri Glyn Thomas AM said:
“Sadly many people have struggled with the impact of the recession and have faced the stark choice between heating and eating. With such poor weather that choice is even more difficult. A VAT reduction will reduce the cost of heating oil for residents in the county.”
Plaid’s Westminster candidate for the Carmarthen East and Dinefwr seat Jonathan Edwards said:
“After all Gordon Brown and New Labour have done in creating the problems of the recession which have led to so many people struggling financially, this step would be a way of offering support and making amends for their actions.”
