Plaid Choose Rhodri Glyn Thomas AM to Stand Again
Thu. July 8, 2010
Plaid Cymru have once again chosen Rhodri Glyn Thomas AM to represent the party at the Assembly Elections taking place next May. Mr. Thomas, who has been the constituencies Assembly Member since the first Assembly election in 1999, currently has the second largest majority in Wales having increased his vote to 15,655, gaining a majority of 8,469.
Secretary of the Plaid Cymru constituency party Cllr Sian Thomas said:
“Rhodri Glyn Thomas AM has been a strong voice for the constituency for many years and we are very pleased that he will be standing for re-election. It is important during such difficult economic times, and with a referendum that could make the work done at the Assembly even more crucial, that the area has a high quality and experienced Assembly Member representing it.”
Constituency Colleague Jonathan Edwards MP said:
“Rhodri has been a fantastic servant to the people of Carmarthen East and Dinefwr over the years. Having held senior positions in the Assembly including Deputy Leader of the Plaid Cymru group and Minister for Heritage, there is little doubt that Rhodri is one of the most respected politicians in Wales.
Having worked with Rhodri for a number of years on local and national campaigns I know how passionately he feels about representing his constituents and I am delighted that he will again be standing for Plaid Cymru.”
Rhodri Glyn Thomas said:
“I am honoured to have been given the support of the local Plaid Cymru group. It has been a huge pleasure to represent the people of Carmarthen East and Dinefwr over the past 11 years and I am very committed to continuing that important work. In Jonathan Edwards MP and our local council group the area has fantastic representatives in Westminster and County Hall and it will be a privilege to continue as part of that strong Carmarthenshire team.”
