Plaid Welcome Start of Election Campaign
Tue. April 6, 2010
Plaid Cymru have welcomed the start of the general election campaign which could very well end up with a hung parliament giving Plaid MPs a critical role to play in deciding the next government’s priorities. Retiring MP Adam Price has given his backing to Jonathan Edwards as Plaid’s candidate and the only local candidate in the running to represent Carmarthen East and Dinefwr.
Adam Price said:
“I have worked with Jonathan for a number of years and know how deeply passionate he is about representing the constituency where he was born and brought up. That unique knowledge will be crucial to his understanding of the challenges facing people from the county. This is a hugely important election and sending the largest contingent of Plaid MPs in the party’s history to Westminster will make a major difference to securing a fair deal for the people of Wales.”
Rhodri Glyn Thomas AM added:
“There is a very real possibility of a hung parliament following this election. Ensuring that local voices are given the highest priority will only be achieved by sending a strong group of Plaid Cymru MPs whose only commitment is to Wales. I know that Jonathan is fighting to win this seat and stand up for people in this part of Wales.”
Plaid‘s Westminster candidate Jonathan Edwards said:
“I am very pleased that the election has finally been called. The truth is the choice between New Labour and the Tories is no choice at all. All the London focussed parties are in a race to inflict savage cuts on Welsh communities. I will be pressing my opponents to come clean on where exactly the axe will fall.”
